Human Genome Meeting 2012, Sydney, Australia
11 March 2012 to 14 March 2012

Though the practice of medicine has always sought to "personalise"Â the care and treatment of patients, the genetics-to-genomics revolution has taken this to the next level with comprehensive, precise, and quantitative genomic technologies. Next generation DNA sequencing, SNP arrays, novel amplification technologies, and microfluidic devices with the accompanying computational advances now speed discovery and the resolution of diagnosis by orders of magnitude. The promise of precise diagnosis, of accurate patient stratification for risk assessment and treatment, and sensitive monitoring is likely to be fulfilled in the next decade. Underpinning all this are the advances in computational biology and eHealth that are necessary to deal with the impending information overload. HGM 2012 will explore the fundamental, translational, and clinical sciences driving the progress of this personalised medicine movement. With the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia, we will also host a special session on Genomic Pathology to highlight the importance of this discipline to personalised genomic-based medicine...

Exploring Human Host-Microbiome Interactions in Health and Disease
08 May 2012 to 10 May 2012
This new Wellcome Trust Scientific Conference will bring together leading scientists from the fields of microbiology, ecology, immunology, gastroenterology and paediatrics to discuss the latest developments in this fast developing field.

Gut microflora play important roles in how we derive energy from our diet and how we store this energy. Recent studies have revealed the extraordinary complexity of the gut microbial ecology and its network connectivity to the metabolic regulation of important pathways in the host.

Microbiome abnormalities have been associated with many non-infectious diseases including inflammatory bowel conditions, colonic cancer, autoimmune diseases, diabetes and obesity and autism.  Gut microbial activity also plays an important role in drug metabolism and toxicity. Understanding the role of the microbiome will offer new insights into major disease processes and discovery of new therapeutic strategies that either target the microbiome directly or use this information in new stratified medicine approaches.

Sessions will include:
Development and diversity of the microbiome
The influence of the microbiome on disease
Metabolism interactions
Modulating the microbiome (probiotics & prebiotics)
Functional metagenomics and integrated systems biology
Drugable therapies

10 June 2012 to 13 June 2012

Wellcome Trust Conference Centre, Wellcome Trust Genome Campus, Hinxton, Cambridge, UK.

Abstract & registration deadline: 11 May 2012

We’re pleased to announce the fourth annual Wellcome Trust conference on Genomic Epidemiology of Malaria, to be held at the Wellcome Trust Conference Centre on the Genome Campus in Hinxton, UK from June 10-13 June, 2012.

This meeting provides a common forum for malaria scientists and clinicians working at the interface of genome science and technology, epidemiology, and statistical and population genetics, with interest in understanding the clinical and biological consequences of genome variation in malaria-exposed populations.

Topics will include genomic epidemiology of the host, vector and parasite, highlighting the practical relevance of this research to global health, including anti-malarial drug resistance, insecticide resistance, vaccine design, and mechanisms of protective immunity.
